Trending OTT Shows in India: India Ke Top 1% Brings Interactive TV to JioHotstar, Bigg Boss 20 Keeps the Daily Habit Going and The Revolutionaries Leads the Scripted Conversation

India’s streaming-show landscape this Wednesday is increasingly about how audiences watch, not simply what they watch. Anil Kapoor’s new India Ke Top 1% is turning the viewer into a participant through JioHotstar’s first Play Along experience; Bigg Boss 20 continues its daily reality-TV cycle; and Prime Video’s The Revolutionaries remains one of September’s most prominent new Indian scripted series. Meanwhile, a strong slate of international series is giving Indian viewers even more competition for their streaming time.

Platforms & Sources Reviewed

Today’s review covered JioHotstar, Prime Video India, Netflix India, ZEE5 and SonyLIV, along with current India release and audience reporting from Times of India, Vogue India, India Today and current industry sources.

Main Highlights

JioHotstar — India Ke Top 1% Makes Streaming Interactive

The freshest reality-show story this week is India Ke Top 1% — The Anil Kapoor Show.

The Indian adaptation of international format The 1% Club premiered September 19 on Star Plus and JioHotstar. One hundred contestants compete through 13 increasingly difficult rounds built around logic, observation and everyday reasoning rather than traditional general knowledge.

Its first episode already produced a memorable television moment: Mumbai contestant Bijal Shah became the show’s first winner and took home ₹94 lakh.

But from an OTT perspective, the more interesting innovation is happening outside the studio.

JioHotstar has introduced Play Along for the show, allowing viewers to answer the same questions from home through the app and compete for prizes including smartphones and Smart TVs. It is the platform’s first implementation of the feature.

Why it’s trending: This changes streaming from:

Watch the contestant answer the question

to:

Answer the question yourself.

That distinction matters.

Streaming services have long tried to replicate television’s communal viewing experience. Interactive formats can potentially do something even more powerful by turning passive viewing into participation.

For JioHotstar, India Ke Top 1% is therefore not simply another reality show.

It is a test of interactive streaming behavior.

JioHotstar — Bigg Boss 20 Keeps the Daily Engagement Machine Running

Bigg Boss 20 remains one of India’s major ongoing streaming shows, with Salman Khan continuing as host.

Unlike India Ke Top 1%, which creates a weekend family-game experience, Bigg Boss is built around something streaming platforms value enormously:

frequency.

Contestant conflicts, alliances, nominations, eliminations and Weekend Ka Vaar episodes continually refresh the conversation, giving viewers reasons to return throughout the week. The show remains part of JioHotstar’s current September slate alongside multiple regional Bigg Boss editions.

Why it’s trending: A streaming platform does not simply want viewers to watch a successful series.

It wants them to open the app tomorrow.

That makes reality television strategically different from bingeable scripted drama. A viewer might finish an eight-episode thriller in a weekend. Bigg Boss can generate viewing, clips, discussion and social-media conversation for months.

Prime Video — The Revolutionaries Remains One of September’s Major Indian Scripted Bets

Prime Video’s historical drama The Revolutionaries continues to stand out among September’s Indian scripted launches.

Directed by Nikkhil Advani and inspired by Sanjeev Sanyal’s Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom, the eight-episode series focuses on young revolutionaries who challenged British rule.

Its cast includes Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada.

Why it’s trending: The series occupies almost the opposite end of streaming from Bigg Boss.

Reality programming creates engagement through unpredictability.

The Revolutionaries is a premium scripted proposition built around production scale, history, performances and long-form storytelling.

That diversity is increasingly central to India’s OTT market: the same subscriber can move from a historical drama to reality television to international crime programming within the same week.

ZEE5 — Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Adds Music to the Reality-TV Battle

Another established reality franchise returned September 19.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2026 is now streaming through ZEE5 alongside its Zee TV broadcast.

Its arrival makes September unusually crowded for non-fiction programming.

JioHotstar has Bigg Boss and India Ke Top 1%.

ZEE5 has Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

SonyLIV is simultaneously using the Asian Games to drive live engagement.

The common denominator is appointment viewing—content designed to make audiences return rather than simply binge and leave.

The International Shows Competing for Indian Attention

Indian shows are not competing only with one another.

September’s international streaming pipeline has become particularly strong.

Neagley, starring Maria Sten, expands Prime Video’s Reacher universe around investigator Frances Neagley.

Slow Horses Season 6 has brought Gary Oldman back as Jackson Lamb.

Netflix has added the second season of animated Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, while Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story adds another entry to its true-crime anthology slate.

That creates an interesting challenge for Indian platforms and producers.

A Hindi reality show is no longer competing only against another Hindi show airing at the same hour.

On OTT, it can compete against every episode already waiting in the viewer’s watchlist.

One Show to Watch Next: Shaque: Trust No One

Tomorrow brings one of the week’s most significant Indian streaming premieres.

Netflix launches Shaque: Trust No One on September 24, marking Parineeti Chopra’s OTT series debut.

The Hindi mystery thriller also stars Jennifer Winget and Tahir Raj Bhasin.

Its story follows a mother whose baby was abducted nine years earlier. Her continuing search begins exposing secrets that force her to question the people and circumstances around her.

That combination—recognizable stars, a high-concept mystery and a bingeable thriller structure—makes Shaque one of the strongest candidates to disrupt next week’s India

Short Trend Takeaway

This week’s streaming story is not dominated by one genre.

It is dominated by different kinds of engagement.

Bigg Boss 20 says: Come back tomorrow.

The Revolutionaries says: Immerse yourself in this world.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa says: Follow the contestants through their journey.

And India Ke Top 1% adds something newer:

Don’t just watch. Play.

That last development may be particularly significant.

India now has roughly 665 million OTT viewers, while connected-TV usage is growing rapidly. As streaming moves deeper into the living room, platforms increasingly have an opportunity to recreate—and potentially improve upon—the shared family experiences once associated primarily with broadcast television.

India Ke Top 1% provides a glimpse of what that might look like:

a television-sized screen, a streaming app, a family watching together—and everyone participating through the platform.

The next phase of OTT may therefore not be only about what we stream.

It may also be about what streaming lets us do while we watch.
