New on OTT India This Week: Gandhari, Alpha, Babita Singh Reporting, Bandar & More (August 28–September 3, 2026)

Platforms checked: Netflix , Prime Video, JioHotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5 and Apple TV, with regional-language release listings also reviewed.

This roundup is restricted to titles that became available during August 28–September 3. Releases dated September 4—including The Court, Unmadham and Jagamae Sangeetham—are not being counted early and belong in the next completed weekly window.

Netflix

Recently Added

  • Alpha — Hindi action/spy thriller — August 28
  • Newton’s 3rd Law — Telugu investigative thriller — August 28
  • Chumbak — Hindi family/community drama — August 28
  • The Whisper Man — English mystery thriller — August 28
  • Graveyard, Season 3 — Turkish crime series — August 28
  • The Secret Woman — Danish mystery thriller — August 28
  • Mousetrap — Korean mystery thriller — August 28
  • Four Hands, Two Sonatas — Korean musical romance — August 29
  • Gandhari — Hindi action thriller — September 3
  • The Gentlemen, Season 2 — English crime/action comedy — September 3

The week’s biggest Netflix India story is Gandhari, starring Taapsee Pannu. The Devashish Makhija-directed thriller follows a mother whose search for her kidnapped daughter becomes increasingly dangerous. Netflix announced September 3 as its streaming premiere, and the date is independently corroborated by current Indian release coverage.

Alpha, led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is the other major Hindi movie arrival, while Chumbak offers a gentler ensemble story centred on five households in a Mumbai neighbourhood.

Netflix also has the broadest international selection this week, ranging from Korean and Danish thrillers to the return of The Gentlemen.

Prime Video

Recently Added

  • Babita Singh Reporting — Hindi investigative crime drama — August 28
  • Michael — biographical drama — August 29*

Babita Singh Reporting is Prime Video’s most notable Indian premiere. Nimisha Sajayan plays suspended police officer Babita “Baby” Singh, whose return home becomes a murder investigation after a childhood friend is killed. Multiple Indian sources confirm its August 28 Prime Video release.

Michael is reported by Indian release coverage as arriving August 29 on both Prime Video and JioHotstar. Because simultaneous platform availability can vary by territory and rights package, treat the precise Prime Video India catalogue availability as region/licensing-sensitive.

JioHotstar

Recently added

  • Part-Timers — Telugu comedy-drama series — August 28
  • Michael — biographical drama — August 29*
  • Bigg Boss Bangla — Bengali reality series — August 30

Part-Timers follows two very different roommates trying to launch a startup together. Its August 28 JioHotstar release is well corroborated, and regional coverage also reports Malayalam audio availability.

The particularly interesting addition this week is Bigg Boss Bangla, hosted by Sourav Ganguly. Its August 30 arrival gives JioHotstar another major regional-language reality franchise alongside its Hindi and South Indian programming.

*As noted above, Michael is reported as available through both Prime Video and JioHotstar; exact rights may depend on the Indian subscription/package.

ZEE5

Recently added

  • Bandar — Hindi crime/legal thriller — August 28

Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra and Saba Azad, is ZEE5’s standout addition. The story follows a television star whose life collapses after an accusation of rape, placing him inside an increasingly difficult legal battle. Current Indian release coverage confirms the August 28 ZEE5 premiere.

Some coverage has inconsistently listed All the Truth in My Lies as a ZEE5 release. Because its India availability is not as strongly corroborated as Bandar, I am not treating it as a confirmed India addition in this roundup.

SonyLIV

Recently added

  • Anbe Diana — Tamil romantic comedy/drama — August 28

Anbe Diana follows a relationship between people from different cultural backgrounds and the family expectations surrounding them. Its August 28 SonyLIV release is corroborated by both national and South Indian entertainment coverage; Malayalam audio availability has also been reported.

SonyLIV’s next notable addition, Malayalam thriller Unmadham, is scheduled for September 4 and therefore falls outside this week’s review window.

Apple TV

Recently added

  • Dark Matter, Season 2 — sci-fi thriller series — August 28

Dark Matter returns with Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly and Alice Braga as its multiverse story moves beyond the events of the first season. Season 2 premiered globally on August 28, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly.

Apple TV availability is generally global for its originals, but catalogue presentation can still vary by territory; the season is therefore best understood as an Apple original available through the India service rather than an India-specific acquisition.

OTTShows Editor’s Picks

Big Hindi streaming premiere: Gandhari — Netflix

Taapsee Pannu’s physically demanding action role and the mother-searching-for-her-child premise make this the strongest new Hindi original arriving at the end of the review period.

Theatrical-to-streaming pick: Alpha — Netflix

A female-led entry in YRF’s spy universe gives Netflix one of the week’s most recognizable Bollywood titles.

Indian series pick: Babita Singh Reporting — Prime Video

The combination of a murder mystery, small-town family relationships and a suspended police officer investigating personally connected events gives this one of the week’s more distinctive Indian premises.

Regional pick: Anbe Diana — SonyLIV

The Tamil romance also illustrates the increasingly common OTT strategy of expanding a regional film’s reach through additional Indian-language audio options.

International series pick: Dark Matter Season 2 — Apple TV

The high-concept multiverse drama returns after its first season expanded Blake Crouch’s novel into an ongoing television story.

Weekly Takeaway

The most striking thing about this week’s India slate is how little the idea of a single “OTT audience” now makes sense. Netflix alone moves from Hindi and Telugu films to Korean, Danish and Turkish programming, while JioHotstar adds a Telugu startup comedy and Bengali reality television. SonyLIV contributes Tamil romance, and Prime Video puts a Hindi investigative drama at the centre of its Indian lineup.

Netflix is the clear volume leader this week and also lands the two highest-profile Hindi movie additions with Alpha and Gandhari. Prime Video’s Babita Singh Reporting, ZEE5’s Bandar and SonyLIV’s Anbe Diana, however, give viewers worthwhile alternatives outside Netflix.
