This Tuesday, two actors illustrate an interesting shift in Indian streaming. Nimisha Sajayan is moving into the spotlight with Prime Video’s Babita Singh Reporting, while Bobby Deol is extending his streaming resurgence with Bandar on ZEE5 and another season of Aashram now in production.

Nimisha Sajayan: From Acclaimed Performer to Prime Video’s Unconventional Cop

Prime Video is preparing to premiere Babita Singh Reporting worldwide on August 28, with Nimisha Sajayan playing suspended assistant sub-inspector Babita “Baby” Singh. The trailer, released August 21, follows Baby as she investigates the murder of a childhood friend while confronting secrets from her own past.
The film also stars Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar, with Paatal Lok and Kohrra creator Sudip Sharma serving as executive producer.
What makes the project more interesting than another murder mystery is its treatment of the police protagonist. Sajayan has described Baby as a character who made her reconsider relationships in her own life, while a new interview with Sajayan, Sharma and director Ambiecka Pandit discusses deliberately moving away from familiar cop-drama conventions and approaching the story through a female gaze.
Why It Matters for OTT
Indian streaming has created room for protagonists who might have struggled to anchor conventional star-driven theatrical movies.
Babita is not presented simply as an invincible police officer. She is underestimated, personally vulnerable and navigating institutional as well as emotional pressures.
That gives Prime Video a familiar streaming genre — the murder investigation — while allowing character rather than spectacle to become the hook.
For Nimisha Sajayan, it also reinforces a career trajectory increasingly built around performance-led roles that can travel across languages and platforms.
Bobby Deol: Bandar Heads to ZEE5 — and Aashram Returns

Bobby Deol is having a particularly active OTT moment.
Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar will begin streaming on ZEE5 on August 28 following its theatrical run. The film stars Deol as a fading television actor whose life collapses after a serious accusation, examining media trials, public judgment and the gap between accusation and legal truth.
At the same time, another of Deol’s best-known streaming roles is returning. Season 4 of Aashram has gone into production, with Prakash Jha directing and Deol reprising his central role for Amazon MX Player.
Why It Matters for OTT
Bobby Deol’s career has become an excellent example of how streaming can reshape an actor’s screen identity.
Rather than simply reproducing the roles associated with his earlier film career, OTT has given him room to inhabit morally ambiguous, darker and sometimes uncomfortable characters.
Now the two sides of that strategy are visible simultaneously: Bandar offers a serious actor-led film, while Aashram gives him an established streaming franchise.
That combination — prestige experimentation plus recognizable IP — may increasingly become a valuable career model for established Indian actors.
Short Trend Takeaway
Nimisha Sajayan and Bobby Deol represent two different routes through India’s evolving OTT star system.
Sajayan demonstrates how strong performers can become streaming leads without requiring conventional movie-star packaging.
Deol demonstrates how an established star can use streaming to reinvent the kinds of characters audiences associate with him.
The larger shift is important: OTT is no longer simply another distribution window for actors.
It is becoming a place where screen identities themselves can be rebuilt.
