The U.S. streaming charts are settling into their fall rhythm, but this week is less about one giant new release than a mix of franchise staying power, catalog rediscovery and well-timed premieres. Apple TV’s Mayday remains the No. 1 title across U.S. streaming, HBO Max has both the No. 1 show and two of the three biggest movies, and Prime Video is expanding the Reacher universe with Neagley.

Platforms reviewed: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV, Peacock and Paramount+. The roundup also uses Reelgood’s U.S. streaming rankings for September 10–16 and fresh release information through September 18.

Netflix — Why Did I Get Married Again? / The Gentlemen

Trending Movie: Why Did I Get Married Again?
Tyler Perry’s latest installment is Netflix’s strongest current movie. It ranked No. 4 among all streaming movies in the U.S. for September 10–16 and leads Netflix’s latest popular-movies ranking, ahead of Those Who Wish Me Dead and The Whisper Man.

Trending Show: The Gentlemen.
The crime series is having an even bigger week, reaching No. 2 among all U.S. streaming shows and No. 4 when movies and television are combined.

Why they’re trending: Netflix is getting mileage from two proven audience hooks: recognizable talent and familiar worlds. Tyler Perry brings an established movie audience, while The Gentlemen benefits from the continuing appeal of stylish crime storytelling.

There is already a potential chart disruptor: Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story arrived September 17, while Netflix adds the Bollywood-fusion college comedy Best of the Best today.

Prime Video — Project Hail Mary / Reacher

Trending Movie: Project Hail Mary.
The sci-fi film continues to demonstrate remarkable streaming longevity, ranking No. 9 among all U.S. streaming movies for September 10–16 even after a lengthy run on Prime Video.

Trending Show: Reacher.
Reacher remains Prime Video’s biggest series, ranking No. 3 among all U.S. streaming shows and No. 5 overall this week.

Why they’re trending: Prime Video is demonstrating the value of long-tail franchises. Instead of disappearing after their premieres, both titles continue to generate audience interest.

And Amazon has now turned that strength into a franchise expansion strategy. Neagley, starring Maria Sten, premiered September 16 with all eight episodes available immediately, coinciding with the Reacher Season 4 finale.

That makes Neagley one of the strongest candidates to enter next week’s national Top 10.

Disney+ — Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu / current Disney franchise viewing

Trending Movie: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The Star Wars movie remains Disney+’s clearest national streaming performer, ranking No. 10 among all U.S. streaming movies this week.

Trending Show: Disney’s franchise and current-series mix.
Disney+ does not place a standalone series in Reelgood’s national Top 10 this week, making the platform’s movie performance the stronger verified signal. Current September programming includes new Disney+, Hulu and ESPN releases alongside the continuing Star Wars push.

Why it’s trending: Disney continues to enjoy something few competitors can match: an enormous library of interconnected franchises. A major Star Wars release can drive interest not only in the title itself but in related series, animation and catalog programming.

Hulu — 9 to 5 / Furious

Trending Movie: 9 to 5.
The 1980 comedy starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin remains one of Hulu’s most notable recent movie rediscoveries after its extraordinary early-September chart resurgence.

Trending Show: Furious.
Although it has fallen from its earlier No. 1 position, Furious remains in the national conversation at No. 8 among U.S. streaming shows for September 10–16.

Why they’re trending: Hulu continues to illustrate how streaming can create very different viewing cycles. Furious benefited from finale-driven urgency, while 9 to 5 demonstrates how an older film can suddenly become culturally current again.

HBO Max — Practical Magic / Lanterns

Trending Movie: Practical Magic.
The 1998 fantasy-romance is currently the No. 2 streaming movie in America, while Supergirl gives HBO Max another entry at No. 3.

The timing is not accidental. Practical Magic 2, again starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, opened at No. 1 at the North American box office last weekend with $30 million domestically and $46 million worldwide.

Trending Show: Lanterns.
Lanterns has now climbed to No. 1 among all U.S. streaming shows and No. 2 across movies and television combined.

Why they’re trending: HBO Max has the week’s best example of theatrical and streaming ecosystems feeding each other. A new sequel is sending viewers back to the original Practical Magic, while Lanterns is simultaneously turning DC into an appointment-TV franchise again.

Apple TV — Mayday / Ted Lasso

Trending Movie: Mayday.
For the second consecutive week, Mayday is the No. 1 streaming title in America, not merely the top movie. The Ryan Reynolds–Kenneth Branagh Cold War action-comedy continues to outperform titles across every major service.

Trending Show: Ted Lasso.
Ted Lasso ranks No. 4 among U.S. streaming shows this week. Apple also has Silo at No. 5, Last Seen at No. 7, Widow’s Bay at No. 9 and Dark Matter at No. 10—giving Apple an extraordinary five titles in Reelgood’s national TV Top 10.

Why they’re trending: Apple’s relatively small library is generating unusually concentrated engagement. Rather than winning through volume, Apple is currently placing multiple prestige originals near the top simultaneously.

And another contender has just entered the race: Slow Horses Season 6 arrived this week.

Peacock — Obsession / The Traitors: New Blood

Trending Movie: Obsession.
Obsession remains Peacock’s strongest movie on the broader U.S. chart, ranking No. 5 among all streaming movies this week. United 93 also gives Peacock a second national Top 10 movie at No. 7.

Trending Show: The Traitors: New Blood.
This is the title to watch beginning today. Peacock’s new reality competition series premieres September 18, giving the service a fresh franchise entry just as reality programming continues to be one of its strongest differentiators.

Why they’re trending: Peacock continues to operate with a distinctive mix: recognizable catalog movies on one side and aggressively promoted reality franchises on the other.

Paramount+ — Scary Movie / Lioness

Trending Movie: Scary Movie.
The franchise remains Paramount+’s most visible recent movie success following its early-September streaming arrival.

Trending Show: Lioness.
Lioness continues its remarkable chart run and ranks No. 6 among all U.S. streaming shows this week.

Why they’re trending: Paramount+ continues to benefit from recognizable brands and shows with unusually loyal audiences.

But its chart may change quickly. Golden Axe premiered September 16, South Park returned this week, and Season 2 of MobLand arrives today, September 18.

Weekly Trend Takeaway

This week’s clearest lesson is that streaming success increasingly extends beyond the premiere window.

Mayday is still No. 1 nationally in its second week. Lanterns, Reacher, Ted Lasso, Silo and Lioness continue to hold prominent positions even as new programming arrives.

But an equally interesting phenomenon is happening with movies.

Practical Magic is almost three decades old, yet it is currently the second-most-popular streaming movie in America because a theatrical sequel has put the franchise back into the cultural conversation. HBO Max is effectively benefiting from movie theaters advertising its back catalog.

That relationship between new releases and old libraries may become increasingly important to streaming strategy. A sequel, reboot, spinoff or new season does more than generate one new hit—it can reactivate an entire franchise.

Prime Video is attempting exactly that with Neagley. Paramount+ is doing it with MobLand. Peacock launches The Traitors: New Blood today. Netflix has just introduced Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. And Apple has brought back Slow Horses.

Next week’s charts could therefore look very different.

Methodology note: Reelgood’s U.S. weekly ranking for September 10–16 is based on organic user interactions with SVOD and AVOD titles, excluding promoted activity. Because streaming services do not publish directly comparable real-time audience numbers, OTTShows combines this national ranking with platform-specific charts, official platform information and fresh release reporting.
